Eric is the night security guard in my office building. During pre-Covid times, when I was going to the office daily, he was a constant, daily positive force in my life, when I left my building. Eric was deeply touched by the 50 Forever concept, and I believe that the photograph shows this. Offering your unique gift , brought him great joy.

This is Leroy who has worked at CVS for years. Outside of work he focuses on taking care of his elderly mother. He has always been so helpful throughout the years and is one of my favorites. He was so appreciative for the 50 Forever mission.

On our way home yesterday from the Humane Society, Jack and I saw Karen. She has a heart condition, her husband died 2 years ago. She's been one month sober from smoking. Her hands were bloated and swollen with cuts. She used to work at the Carter Center and The Red Cross. She was so nice and appreciative abou t the 50 Forever Mission. P lease note her happy face at the end of her sign... now that is perseverance!

Today I gave the $50 to Rodka, a woman from the Czech Republic in Key West who, due to the Coronavirus, lost her job at a local hotel, as did her husband. She also does house cleaning for us on the side. I explained the gift was intended to brighten someone’s day and hoped this would do that for her. She was very appreciative and said “you don't often see something like this" and started to tear up. Seeing her tear up caused me to tear up. This is certainly what this was meant to do, connect us and bring joy.

Mik and I were driving back from grocery shopping in Wilkesboro, when we saw a Latino woman walking down the sidewalk with 2 children, carrying bundles of laundry to the Laundromat. I told Mik to make a U-Turn and go back and hoped she was still on the sidewalk. She was.. I quickly jumped out and gave her the $50 bill. We told her to have a great day and drove away before she could realize what occurred.

I went into Carving Board, a busy lunch place with Carrie. I had never been in this restaurant. You order off a daily sandwich board with various breads and soups. The line was long behind me and what I wanted wasn’t on the board. This nice African American man behind the counter asked me what I really wanted as a sandwich and said I’ll make it special for you”! He also told me the freshest soup they had and combined the two. Carrie and I sat down and I watched this man keep smiling, making sandwiches, bussing tables and never stopping for a break. He went out of his way and asked me how my “special” sandwich he made was up to my taste test. I told him it was great and complimented him on his smile...being the happiest man in that restaurant! He replied that he loved his job and after he leaves the job at 4pm, he worked another job in a business center as a janitor. I gave him the $50 bill and told him he was a great guy and it was for good luck! He was speechless, got teary eyed and thanked me.

I was walking to Colony House one night and saw a woman under a large tree with numerous bags, cases and a shopping cart. She was homeless and trying to find shelter. I overheard the security guard who was approaching her explain that she had to vacate immediately. She said she had nowhere to go and he again said to collect all her belongings and move. This was the person whom I could give the money to. In the time it took for me to get it out of my wallet, the guard had started to leave. As the guard walked away, I reached out and said I hoped this could help you. She looked at the bill and then quietly started to gather her items. I went inside for about 10mins and when I came out, she and all her stuff were gone.
